Elementary Course

This course gives students a basic knowledge of the Russian language, culture and contemporary Russian society. By the end of the course, students are expected to have a reasonably good level of spoken Russian in a number of real-life situations and to be able to read and write simple texts. The class consists of 9-12 academic hours per week of grammar, listening and reading comprehension and conversation. The total number of contact hours is 72 (seventy-two). At the end of the course students have an option of a final written / oral / test assessment.

Basic Course

This course is aimed at students who have successfully completed course of Russian of elementary level. Otherwise, placement in this course is based on entrance assessment (written and oral). This course further develops students’ knowledge of the Russian language and culture, as well as reading and communication skills. The class consists of 9-12 academic hours per week of grammar, listening and reading comprehension and conversation. The total number of contact hours is 72 (seventy-two). At the end of the course students have an option of a final written / oral / test assessment.

Intermediate Course

This course is aimed at students who have successfully completed the course of Russian of elementary and basic levels. In other cases placement in this course is based on an entrance assessment (written and oral). This course is offered to learners who have a reasonable knowledge of Russian grammar and some communicative competence. The course aims to develop students’ knowledge of the Russian language and culture. At the end of the course students should be able to read and comprehend journalistic as well as literary texts, and to communicate with native Russian speakers. The class consists of 9-12 academic hours per week of grammar, listening and reading comprehension and conversation. The total number of contact hours is 72 (seventy-two). At the end of the course students have an option of a final written / oral / test assessment.

Upper-Intermediate Course

This course is aimed at students who have successfully completed the course of Russian of intermediate level. In other cases placement in this course is based on an entrance assessment (written and oral). This course is offered to learners who have a good knowledge of Russian grammar and some communicative competence. The course aims to develop students’ knowledge of the Russian language and culture. The total number of contact hours is 72 (seventy-two). At the end of the course students have an option of a final written / oral / test assessment, which may be one of the entrance requirements in order to proceed to the next level, advanced Russian.

Advanced Course

This course is offered to learners who have a good understanding and command of Russian grammar and communicative competence. The course aims to further develop students’ knowledge of the Russian language and culture. The class consists of 9-12 academic hours per week of grammar, listening and reading comprehension and conversation. The total number of contact hours is 72 (seventy-two). At the end of the course students have an option of a final written / oral / test assessment.
